‘Glow’ Lantern Parade

Saturday 2 December - 5pm

In the run up to the the Reading Lantern Parade - GLOW, lantern making workshops were held across Reading so that everybody had the opportunity to come along and make their own beautiful willow and paper lantern for the parade.

Each lantern workshop was supported by professional artists who helped to make lanterns and provide information on where to come on the day of the parade.

INFORMATION FOR LANTERN MAKERS from The Reading Lantern Parade Team about the parade on Saturday 2 December:

Dear lantern makers – we hope your lantern is dry and that you have been able to cut the hole for the door! (so we can light the candle on the day)

PLEASE MEET US AT 4PM (or just before) outside the back of the Broad Street Mall on Dusseldorf way / Hosier Street (Opposite Blue Collar Food) in Reading.

We need to:

Check your lantern is safe

Register you and your children for the parade

Attach your lantern to a long bamboo pole

Light your lantern for you (please do not do this yourself)

We will then walk together at 4.45pm when the road closure is in place.

All children must be accompanied and we will be giving every child a wristband with an adults number on it. The Lost Child Area at the end of the parade will be by Sam’s Wrap in Forbury Gardens.

A professional and volunteer stewarding team will be escorting the parade to ensure that everybody has an enjoyable and safe event.

Toilets are available in the Broad Street Mall. Please use the town centre Public Carpark if you are driving. If you are travelling by bus please email us for a discounted travel voucher from Reading Buses.

The event WILL happen in the rain so please dress sensibly for the weather.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday at 4pm for the Reading Lantern Parade.
