Sketchpad started in October 2010, and has been meeting regularly on a Thursday evening ever since, with the occasional holiday here and there.
Sketchpad is a relaxed adult art class run by Samantha Watkins involving drawing, painting and sculpture, using a variety of materials including, charcoal, conte, pencil, pen, watercolour, acrylic, ink and terracotta clay. Each class is structured, though loose enough for students to feel free to experiment and develop their own style in a sociable environment.
Everyone is able to be creative learning about art through lessons in life drawing, still life and sculpture, as well as any personal projects and other inspirations. All levels of expertise are welcome to come and join in, from absolute beginners to those who want to develop their skills.
This small and friendly art class meets upstairs in the Jelly Artpad, a large and spacious studio where they enjoy art, chat and listen to various ipod playlists whilst drinking tea… oh, and eating biscuits!
There is also the occasional gallery visit where everyone can meet up and travel together to exhibitions in London.
Samantha is a Reading based Artist and Graphic Designer, who has worked for a variety of advertising agencies, design studios and publishing companies around Berkshire and currently works and teaches in Adult Education.
Samantha's love of the human figure has lead her to explore the human form through sculpture, painting and drawing, capturing emotion using mixed media, colour, clay and plaster.
Classes are held at the Jelly, 42 Market Place, Reading.
Each session is £11 including refreshments.
