Jelly’s Town Centre Arts Trail weekend returns
Open for Art 2015
A three-day Town Centre arts festival to showcase Reading’s hidden talent and creative industries, 3-5 July 2015
Workshops to ‘pop-up’ artists trails in unexpected places, to walks and talks in our most loved spaces, the Open For Art Weekend Festival encompasses all that is great about the arts, heritage and culture.
Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th July welcomes the arts trail back into town for its second year, bringing arts, culture and heritage into the heart of Reading; with workshops, a lively events programme across multiple venues, an artists trail, activities, walks and opportunities to join in and celebrate Reading Town Centre’s Arts and Culture Programme.
Launching on Friday 3rd July, starting with “Breakfast with an Artist” in Picnic café at 8am, visitors will be able to hear the intriguing story involving a painting with a past and a murder case, retold by Director of Reading Fringe Festival, Zsuzsi Kingsnorth and her Grandmother, Anna Szentmihaly.
Other activities on offer will include an Open Air Art challenge where artists can create a piece of artwork inspired by Reading and the public vote to choose the winner of £100 prize, workshops and talks, a pop-up Pan Yard created by RASPO for the public to have a go, a new for 2015 artists trail across spaces in the town centre, a performance piece by Berzerk (famed for their Mannequins Alive piece in Jacksons last year) Shadow People. This year Open for Arts coincides with Reading Arts Week, which is open to artists from the Reading area, both amateur and professional, showcasing them at Reading’s Town Hall. Jelly will also be bringing “Make Reading”, the successful Christmas pop-up shop, back into town with a one day “Make Reading Market’ at the current jelly studios in Jacksons Corner.
If that’s not enough, with music from Creative People, Beat the Street Prize Presentation will be a new feature of the Open for Art weekend as participants will be welcomed into the town for a pre presentation workshop at jelly to make willow streamers, an award ceremony at 12.30pm, and a post celebration walk to sample all the delights of the arts, heritage and tree trails and events. There will be special Beat the Street boxes up for the weekend with chances of participants to win further tap prizes.
More details can be found by using the drop down menu for each section: workshops, events, trails, guided walks, venues, artists trails and The Makers Market
