Open for Art 2017

Dear artists, makers, designers, explorers, performers, innovators, walkers and talkers

We are planning our 4th Open for Art Festival from Friday 30 June until Sunday 2 July and we want to hear from you. We are looking for all sorts of ideas and there are many ways to be involved from submitting a piece of art work for exhibition, to a performance or workshop and to anything else in between.

This year we have two loose themes running throughout the festival weekend:

Firstly, it is the anniversary of some notable icons of art and design – Frida Kahlo and Lucienne Day. This is inspiring us with ideas of art, design, collaborations, relationships in art.  We will be celebrating these in special talks and walks but would particularly like any submissions inspired by this.

Our second theme is based on a project we have been working on with younger people around the waterways that run through the town/our town.  Coincidentally there is also an opportunity for funding to support this in this year’s ARENA funding so if your work fits the water theme then do apply for funding to help with delivering it – more information below.

To be involved in Open for Art 2017, please send an expression of interest by Wednesday 28 February to Suzanne

All we need is an email to let us know how you would like to be involved, attaching any images of the work if you want to be considered for the artists trails or proposals outlining what you would like to do.

Expressions of interest for Open for Art 2017 28 February

Deadline for ARENA is 28 February

These grants are created to encourage local art organisations to bring amazing spectacular events to Reading town centre over the summer period in celebration of Reading’s waterways ahead of the Reading-on-Thames Festival, which will take place in September this year. Moreover, there is also one grant for an event as part of the Reading-on-Thames Festival itself.
