SMART is a free, family festival developed by the 2012 Partnership Board. It is a celebration of Sport, Music and Art along the Thames on 'Super Saturday', the middle weekend of the Olympic Games.
The event takes place on Saturday 4 August and runs from 12noon to 6pm. During the day the event will celebrate sport, music and art in Reading with a Sporting Village and demonstrations, community group stalls, Creative Village, Acoustic Stage and Workshop Area, Open Air Arena, Main Stage, Traylens Funfair, food stalls, and a big screen.
Sited on Thameside Promenade and running from Reading Rowing Club along to Rivermead Leisure Complex, and also on the other side of the Thames in Caversham Court Gardens, SMART has been developed in a partnership between the 2012 Partnership Board, Jelly, Culturemix, Reading Rock Academy, Reading Rowing Club, Friends of Caversham Court Gardens and Rivermead Leisure Complex.
Sport – Join in with sporting activities including cycling, rowing, zumba, see exhibits from Reading Museum’s Bikes, Balls & Biscuitmen – Our Sporting Life Exhibitions and enjoy the Urban Play Ranger sports programme
Music – Main stage programme includes Limpopo, Burnt Tomorrow, AF Harrold, Ben Smith (Private Jet/formerly of the Quotes) accompanying a young singer Ella Rose, Amy’s Ghost and Fuzz Universe
Arts – workshops from 12noon – 5.30pm – Including t-shirt painting, willow sculptures, drumming workshop and berzerk theatre workshops and shows.
Other exhibitors include many community and charity stalls and a special appearance by the Heart Angels, the Secret Market makes a special pop-up appearance with work by artists and makers, visit the Funfair and refreshment stalls
Use the ferry to visit the historic gardens at Caversham Court, where there will be refreshments from the award winning Caversham Court Kiosk
