The weekend full of activity has been and gone and we are already prepping ourselves for a new window installation tomorrow – Martin Stubbington, Friars Walk. Artists have been offered spots at the outside:inside pop-up Festival 2011 and this week is full of planning, meetings and admin but we are going to end it on a high at Reading University Fine Art Degree Show, this Friday from 4pm onwards. One of the soon to be graduates, Stuart Booker, installed 3 pieces of work in one of our shop windows at 173 Friar Street – you can see the images from there here.
Stuart says " As a collection of work, several of my projects question the concept of juxtaposed subjects, and particularly the seemingly taut relationship between the two; their very nature as separate elements of a juxtaposition should dictate that they are diametrically opposed, yet it is possible to present this opposition in a way that compliments or reinterprets each other. It is this concept of that is addressed and explored in projects such as the Pixelation series, in which classical compositions were pixelated via contemporary computer software, before being reapplied as flat squares of colour onto a canvas. The image is an abstract, geometrically proportioned mass of colour, yet at the same moment the artistic merits of its classically-painted original are apparent."
Graduating this July from the University of Reading, Stuart Booker is a BA Art student born and raised near Chichester, West Sussex.
